Warning. If the automatic transmission has been replaced or overhauled, or the transmission fluid is contaminated, flush the heat exchanger and transmission fluid cooling pipes.
If you have a transmission fluid quick change facility, you should use that. If there is no such setting, replace the transmission fluid as follows.
1. Disconnect the hose that connects the gearbox and oil heat exchanger (from the side of the radiator) (pic. 13.10).
Pic. 13.10. Location of the hose connecting the automatic transmission to the oil heat exchanger
2. Start the engine and drain the transmission fluid through the hose.
Condition: Engine running at idle, selector lever in position N.
Warning. One minute after starting, the engine must be stopped. If all the transmission fluid has drained out earlier, turn off the engine at this point.
Drained volume: 3.5 l
3. Remove the drain plug from the automatic transmission crankcase and drain the remaining transmission fluid (pic. 13.11).
Pic. 13.11. Location of the transmission fluid drain plug
Liquid volume: 2.0 L
4. Replace oil filters.
5. Install the drain plug with a new gasket and torque to specification.
Tightening torque: 32 Nm
6. Through the funnel installed in the oil filler tube, fill in new transmission fluid. Stop filling the fluid if the required amount cannot be filled into the transmission.
The volume of the poured liquid: 5.5 l
7. Repeat the steps in point 2
Note. Drain the fluid through the oil heat exchanger hose. Check the worn transmission fluid for dirt. If the transmission fluid is dirty, repeat steps 6 and 7.
8. Pour new transmission fluid directly into the oil filler tube.
The volume of the poured liquid: 3.5 l
9. Replace the hose disconnected earlier in step 1 and firmly insert the dipstick (see fig. 13.10).
10. Start the engine and let it run for 1-2 minutes at idle.
11. With the engine running, move the selector lever from position N to all positions and back to position N.
12. Check the transmission fluid level, which should be at the COLD mark on the dipstick (pic. 13.12). If it is lower, then add the required amount of transmission fluid.

13. Make a trip until the transmission warms up to a temperature of 70-80°C. Park the car on a flat, level surface. Check the fluid level, which should be between the HOT marks.
Note. The COLD mark on the dipstick is only needed for a rough estimate of the cold oil level.
14. Reinstall the transmission fluid dipstick securely.
