General information
- The vehicles are equipped with a four-speed automatic transmission F4A42. Since the automatic transmission is a complex unit, it must be repaired at a service station using special equipment. The location of the automatic transmission controls is shown in Figure 13.1.
Pic. 13.1. Location of automatic transmission controls F4A42:A—crankshaft angle sensor; B - double pressure sensor; C - ignition lock switch; D - vehicle speed sensor, D - transmission fluid temperature sensor, input shaft speed sensor, output shaft speed sensor, automatic transmission control solenoid valve; E - control lamp of the selected range; F - brake light switch; G - throttle full opening sensor; I - diagnostic socket; I - automatic transmission control relay, electronic engine and automatic transmission control unit; J - accelerator position sensor
- On cars with 4G18 engines, since 2002, an automatic transmission F4A41 was installed, similar in design to the automatic transmission F4A42,
- On vehicles with 4G93 engines, gear ratios have been changed since 2002.
- All models since 2002 have not been fitted with a wide open throttle switch or vehicle speed sensor.
Warnings
- Service Warnings for Vehicles Equipped with Supplemental Restraint System (SRS).
- (1) Unqualified service or repair of the SRS system (as well as any SRS-related part or assembly) may result in injury or death to personnel (as a result of unauthorized deployment of an airbag), as well as the driver and front passenger (caused by the inoperability of the SRS system).
- (2) Maintenance or repair of the SRS system (as well as any part, assembly associated with this system) must only be carried out by an authorized MITSUBISHI dealer.
Note. The SRS system consists of the following components: SRS ECM, SRS Malfunction Indicator Lamp, airbag modules, coiled wire and wires connecting the system components.
Warnings
- When tightening bolts and nuts, strictly observe the recommended tightening torques.
- If the tightening torques are violated, parts may be damaged or loosened during the operation of the vehicle.
