Pic. 6.1. Functional diagram of the system of direct fuel injection into the engine cylinders (GDI) car from 1999 release
If a malfunction occurs in any of the following elements of the direct fuel injection system, the engine malfunction indicator lamp lights up («CHECK ENGINE») (pic. 6.2).
Pic. 6.2. Location of engine warning light
If the light stays on while the engine is running, check for a DTC.
Engine Malfunction Indicator Lamp («CHECK ENGINE») lights up when there are malfunctions in the following elements of the system:
- electronic engine control unit;
- oxygen concentration sensor;
- air flow meter;
- air temperature sensor in the intake manifold;
- throttle position sensor (1st channel);
- throttle position sensor (2nd channel);
- coolant temperature sensor;
- crankshaft position sensor;
- camshaft position sensor;
- atmospheric sensor (barometric) pressure;
- fuel injector knock sensor;
- in case of violation of the fuel combustion process;
- immobilizer;
- with abnormal fuel pressure;
- vacuum sensor of the brake system;
- malfunction of the fuel system;
- accelerator pedal position sensor (1st channel);
- accelerator pedal position sensor (2nd channel);
- throttle actuator electronic control system;
- throttle servo;
- throttle position control valve.
Reference table for emergency operation
When the self-diagnosis system detects a malfunction of one of the main sensors, the system switches to emergency control mode (FAIL SAFE FUNCTION), so that the car can continue moving (to the service station).
