Removing
- Disconnect the wire from the negative battery terminal.
- Remove the lower engine mudguard.
- Remove the engine oil level gauge.
- Remove the plug and drain the engine oil from the engine (fig.4.15). Loosen the engine oil drain plug about half a turn. Place an oil collection container under the plug and unscrew the plug completely. If necessary, press down on the plug when unscrewing to prevent the oil from leaking prematurely.

Warning. Prolonged contact of the skin with mineral oil leads to the washing off of natural fats from human skin and the appearance of dryness, irritation and dermatitis. In addition, used motor oil contains potentially harmful substances that can cause skin cancer.
- Turn out bolts of fastening of the oil pallet.
- Insert the blade of a flathead screwdriver into the groove in the oil pan (pic. 4.16). Turning a screw-driver, separate the oil pallet from the block of cylinders.

Warning. Since the oil pan is made of aluminum alloy, a puller cannot be used to remove it (MV998727).
Examination
- Check the oil pan for cracks.
- Check the welding surface of the oil pan for damage and deformation.
- Check the oil strainer and oil pickup tube for splits, dirt, or damaged wire mesh and tube.
Installation
- Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following.
- Clean and degrease the mating surfaces of the cylinder block and oil pan.
- Apply a continuous bead of MITSUBISHI MD970389 sealant about 4mm in diameter to the oil pan flange mating surface of the cylinder block (pic. 4.17).

- Install the oil pan within 30 minutes of applying the sealant and tighten the bolts to the correct torque.
- Screw the engine oil drain plug into the oil pan, while installing a new sealing ring on the plug.
- Fill the engine with engine oil.
- Install the lower engine mudguard.
- Connect the wire to the negative battery terminal.
- Start the engine and check for engine oil leaks.
