Removing
- Disconnect the wire from the negative battery terminal.
- Remove the top engine cover.
- Remove the center beam.
- Remove the bolts, disconnect the connectors, and remove the radiator fan assembly.
- Remove the bolts and remove the radiator fan motor.
- Loosen the nut and remove the radiator fan impeller.
Examination
- Check the radiator fan blades for damage or cracks.
- radiator fan motor
- Verify that the radiator fan rotates when voltage is applied to the fan motor connector pins (pic. 5.28).
- Make sure that the fan does not make noise when rotating.

Relay test
- Check for continuity between fan relay contacts (pic. 5.29).
Pic. 5.29. F9Q1 Diesel Radiator Fan Motor Relay Test
1. When voltage is applied from the battery terminals to pins 1 and 3 of the relay, there must be continuity between pins 4 and 5.
2. When the voltage is disconnected from pins 2 and 3 of the relay, there should be no conduction between pins 4 and 5.
