Removing
- Disconnect the wire from the negative battery terminal,
- Remove the lower engine mudguard.
- Remove the front exhaust pipe.
- Remove the plug and drain the engine oil from the engine.
- Turn out bolts of fastening of the bottom section of the oil pallet. Using a hammer through a block of wood, knock down and remove the lower section of the oil pan (pic. 2.28).

Warning
(1) Perform this operation slowly to avoid deformation of the oil pan flange.
(2) Since the upper section of the oil pan is made of aluminum alloy, a puller cannot be used to remove the lower section of the oil pan (MV998727).
- Turn out bolts and remove a cover.
- Align the bolts securing the upper section of the oil pan.
- Insert the blade of a flathead screwdriver into the slot in the top section of the oil pan (pic. 2.29). By turning a screwdriver, separate the upper section of the oil pan from the cylinder block.
- Turn out bolts and remove a partition.

Warning. Since the upper section of the oil pan is made of aluminum alloy, a puller cannot be used to remove it (MV998727).
Installation
- Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following.
- Clean and degrease the mating surfaces of the cylinder block and oil pan.
- Apply a continuous coat of MITSUBISHI MD970369 Sealant approx. 4 mm in diameter to the near surface of the top section of the oil pan mating with the cylinder block (see fig. 2.27).
- Install the top section of the oil pan within 30 minutes of applying the sealant and tighten the bolts to the correct torque.
- Apply a continuous coat of MITSUBISHI MD970369 Sealant, approximately 4 mm in diameter, to the near surface of the lower oil pan section mating with the upper oil pan section (see fig. 2.27).
