Removing
- Squeeze out the latches and lower the glove box down.
- Remove the screws, disconnect the connector and remove the passenger airbag. Store the removed airbag in a clean, dry place, face up. Do not place objects on the airbag that could cause serious injury when the airbag deploys.
Examination
- If the inspection reveals any defect in the airbag, replace it.
Warning. Do not attempt to measure the resistance of the airbag pyrotechnic inflator circuit as unauthorized deployment of the driver's airbag may occur.
- Check the airbag cover for dents, cracks or deformation.
- Check the connectors for damage and the connector pins for deformation.
- Check the pyrotechnic gas generator, which converts a control electrical signal into an ignition signal, causing the powder to decompose, inflating the airbag bag (pic. 19.120).
Fig.19.120. Checking the front passenger airbag
- Install the passenger airbag in the instrument panel and check its alignment.
Installation
- Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following.
- Connect the wire to the negative battery terminal.
- Turn on the ignition.
- Verify that the SRS warning light illuminates for 7 seconds after turning the key in the ignition switch to the ON position, then remains lit for at least 5 seconds after turning the key in the ignition switch to the OFF position. This indicates that the SRS system is functioning properly.
