Additional passive safety system (SRS)

Additional passive safety system (SRS) designed to be used in conjunction with seat belts and to reduce injury to the driver and front passenger in a severe frontal collision. In the event of a collision, the seat belt pretensioners are deployed simultaneously with the airbags.

The SRS consists of: four airbags, an SRS-ECU airbag control unit, side impact sensors, an SRS warning lamp and a coiled wire (pic. 19.110).



Before servicing the airbag system, make sure that at least 60 seconds have passed after the ignition is turned off and the wire is disconnected from the negative battery terminal. This time is necessary for the capacitor to discharge and prevent unauthorized deployment of the airbags, which could result in injury.
