2. Measure the free play around the circumference of the steering wheel.
Steering wheel free play: no more than 30 mm
3. If the free play exceeds the allowable value, then the universal joints of the steering shaft or steering gear are worn out. Repair or replace worn parts.
4. If, after repair, the free play exceeds the allowable value, set the front wheels to the straight-line position and apply a force of 5 N to turn the steering wheel (pic. 16.2). Apply force to the outer diameter of the steering wheel.

If the free play exceeds the allowable value, remove the steering gear and check the total torque of the steering gear drive gear.
