1. Remove the floor carpet and measure the height of the brake pedal above the floor (pic. 15.3). If the pedal installation height is not correct, adjust it as follows.
Pic. 15.3. Measuring the brake pedal height
Brake pedal installation height: 163.5-166.5 mm
(1) Disconnect the connector from the brake light switch.
(2) Unscrew the lock nut of the pusher and, turning the pusher to one or the other side with pliers, adjust the height of the brake pedal to the floor (pic. 15.4).

(3) Tighten the pusher locknut.
(4) Fully press the brake light switch in the direction of the brake pedal. The switch will only move when pressed hard.
(5) Raise the brake pedal until the pushrod is fully extended, then move the brake light switch to the desired position. By rotating the brake light switch, adjust its position so that the gap is within 0.5-1.0 mm (pic. 15.5).

(6) Connect the connector to the brake light switch.
(7) Make sure the brake lights turn off when you release the brake pedal.
2. With the engine off, press the brake pedal several times to remove the vacuum in the brake booster. Press the brake pedal with your hand until you feel a noticeable resistance and measure. pedal free play (pic. 15.6).
Pic. 15.6. Place of measuring the free travel of the brake pedal
Brake pedal free travel: 3-8mm
If the free play of the brake pedal exceeds the allowable value, then the clearance in the connection of the brake pedal to the pedal bracket is probably increased. Check the clearance and, if necessary, replace damaged parts.
3. Start the engine, press the brake pedal with a force of 490 N and measure the distance between the pedal and the floor (pic. 15.7).
Pic. 15.7. Place for measuring the distance between the floor and the brake pedal when pressed
The distance between the floor and the brake pedal when pressed: not less than 80
If the measured distance is not correct, check for air in the hydraulic brake system, clearance between the brake shoes and the drum, or Parking brake sticking. Adjust and replace defective parts as necessary.
