Pic. 1.50. Automatic air conditioner control panel: 1 - knob for adjusting the air temperature; 2 - air conditioner switch (press); 3 – knob for fan operation modes; 4 – ventilation mode selection knob
The air conditioner only works when the engine is running. The control panel of the air conditioner with automatic control is shown in fig. 1.50.
Attention! When the air conditioner is running, the idle speed increases slightly as the air conditioner compressor turns on and off automatically. If you have stopped the car, then to prevent it from moving slowly, fully depress the brake pedal; this precaution is especially important for vehicles with automatic transmission.
The operation of the air conditioning system in automatic mode
Under normal conditions, it is recommended to use the air conditioning system in automatic mode. To put it into this mode, follow these steps:
1. Set the fan mode switch to the position «AUT» («Auto»).
2. Turn the air temperature control knob to the desired temperature.
The temperature can be set between 15 and 29°C. To increase the temperature, turn the knob to the right.
Under normal conditions, it is recommended to set the temperature around 22°C.
3. Set the ventilation mode selection knob to the position «AUT» («Auto»).
Selecting the direction of air flow from the deflectors, except for and air intake mode (outside air intake or recirculation), fan speed and on/off of the air conditioner are carried out automatically in this mode.
Pic. 1.51. Symbols displayed on the multifunction display: A - outdoor temperature / set temperature; B - fan speed; C - direction of air flow
If the vehicle is equipped with a multi-function center display, it will display the readings shown in fig. 1.51.
Note. 1. Readings A (see fig. 1.51) usually refers to the air temperature outside the vehicle. The set temperature is displayed for a few seconds when the position of the air temperature adjustment knob is changed.
Note. 2. If the outdoor temperature drops below 3°C, an alarm will sound. The outside temperature numbers will flash for approximately 5 seconds. During this time, the temperature control knob is inactive. Set the desired temperature at the end of the warning signal.
Manual air conditioning control
If you set the fan speed selection knob or the ventilation mode selection knob to any position you like, the system will still automatically adjust all parameters except those set by turning the corresponding knob. To return to the automatic control mode of all parameters, set the corresponding knobs to the position «AUT» («Auto»).
Ventilation mode selection
Set the ventilation mode selector to any position you like. Turning this knob changes the nozzles of the ventilation system.
If the vehicle is equipped with a multi-function center display, the ventilation mode will be shown on the display WITH (see fig. 1.51).
Deflectors / nozzles of the ventilation system, from which air is supplied, depending on the choice of ventilation modes, and the indication of the symbol on the display are shown in Table. 1.2.

Main airflow directions (ventilation modes)
To the head area. The air flow enters the upper part of the vehicle interior.
To the area of the legs/head. Air enters the upper part of the vehicle interior and the leg area.
To the area of the legs. Air enters only in the leg area.
To the leg area/to the windshield and side window heating vents. Air enters the leg area, windshield and door windows.
To the windshield and side window heating deflectors. Air flows only to the windshield and glass doors of the car.
Note. Air is always supplied from the center and side vents, regardless of the position of the ventilation mode selection knob.
Air intake mode selection
Each time you press the air intake mode switch, the ventilation modes change between outdoor air intake and recirculation mode.
In the recirculation mode, the control lamp lights up.
Outdoor air intake mode.
Outside air enters the vehicle interior.
Air recirculation mode.
The air is recirculated in the passenger compartment.
The outside air intake mode is usually used to quickly remove moisture or ice from the windshield and side windows and keep them clean.
The recirculation mode should be selected when intensive cooling of the passenger compartment air is required, as well as if the outside air is very dusty or polluted.
In this case, you should periodically turn on the outside air intake mode to avoid fogging the windows.
Fan mode selection
Turning knob 3 (see fig. 1.50) fan operation mode switch clockwise or in the opposite direction, you can set the desired air flow rate. The air flow rate gradually increases when the knob is turned clockwise.
If the vehicle is equipped with a multi-function center display, the fan operation indicator is displayed on the display IN (see fig. 1.51).
Elimination of fogging of a windshield and glasses of doors
To remove frost or condensation (fogging) from the windshield or door windows, set the ventilation mode selection knob to or (pic. 1.52).
Pic. 1.52. Button layout (A) selecting the ventilation mode, turning on the air conditioner (IN) and the position of the handles for defogging the windshield and door glass
In this position, the footwell is heated and fogging is removed from the windshield and door glasses (recommended when driving in rain or snow).
1. Switch A (see fig. 1.52) set the outdoor air intake mode.
2. Set the ventilation mode selection knob to
3. Adjust fan speed.
4. Adjust the temperature as desired.
5. Press the switch IN conditioner.
Fast fogging removal (fast heating) glasses
For quick fog removal (rapid heating) glass do the following.
1. Set the ventilation mode selection knob to (pic. 1.53).
Pic. 1.53. Position of knobs in quick demist mode (rapid heating) glasses
2. Set the maximum fan speed.
3. Adjust the temperature by turning the air temperature control knob to the maximum.
4. If the ventilation mode selection knob is in the position, then the air conditioner operates in automatic mode. The outside air intake mode will also be automatically selected.
5. To effectively remove fogging from the windows, direct the air flow from the side deflectors towards the door windows.
Do not set the air temperature adjustment knob to a position close to the maximum cooling position. When the door windows are blown with cooled air, water vapor will condense on them (fogging).
Cooling
Set the ventilation mode selection knob to
switch A (pic. 1.54) set the outside air intake mode and press the switch IN conditioner.
Pic. 1.54. Button layout (A) selecting the ventilation mode, turning on the air conditioner (IN) and the position of the handles in cooling mode
1. Adjust the temperature by turning the air temperature adjustment knob clockwise or counterclockwise.
2. Select the desired fan speed.
3. If the outside air is dusty, too dirty, or the interior air needs to be quickly cooled, set the air intake mode selection switch to the recirculation position, and turn the temperature control knob all the way to the left.
Turning off the air conditioner
To turn off the air conditioner, move the fan speed selection knob to the «ABOUT» («Off»). After that, only the possibility of changing the air intake mode remains.
Instructions for using the air conditioner
Park your car in the shade. If you leave the car in the sun, it will get very hot and it will take longer for the interior to cool down. If parking in the sun is unavoidable, then open the windows for the first few minutes of air conditioning operation to release hot air from the passenger compartment.
When the air conditioner is running, the side windows must be raised. The intake of outside air through open windows reduces the efficiency of the air conditioner.
Too much air cooling is harmful to health. The air temperature in the cabin should be only 5-6°C lower than the outside air temperature.
When the system is in operation, keep the air inlets in front of the windshield clear of foreign objects such as leaves. Leaves clogged in the duct prevent the normal passage of air and close the holes for draining water.
Recommendations for the care of the air conditioning system
If the efficiency of the air conditioner has decreased compared to the standard, then the reason for this may be a refrigerant leak. Have the air conditioner checked by an authorized Mitsubishi dealer.
The air conditioner installed in the vehicle must be charged with HFC-134a refrigerant and SUN-PAG56 air conditioner oil.
The use of a different refrigerant or different lubricant will result in serious damage, necessitating the replacement of the entire A/C system.
The refrigerant must not be released into the atmosphere.
The new refrigerant HFC-134a used in the car does not harm the ozone layer of the atmosphere.
It is recommended to recover the refrigerant for further reuse.
In the event of an extended period of inactivity
The air conditioner must be turned on for at least 5 minutes every week, even in cold weather. This prevents deterioration of the lubrication of the internal parts of the compressor and ensures that the air conditioning system is maintained in good technical condition. If these requirements are not met, the system may emit an unusual odor. This does not indicate that it is defective.
