Disassembly and assembly
1. Disconnect the battery from the ground.
2. Raise the vehicle.
3. Drain the transfer case oil.
4. Mark the position of the cardan shaft flanges, unscrew the nuts, disconnect the flange and remove the shaft from the transmission (or transfer box).
5. Remove the dust cover, pry and remove the oil seal.
6. Assembly is carried out in the reverse order.
7. Press a new oil seal with a mandrel (tools MIT3995 and MB990938-01) until the plane of the stuffing box is aligned with the gearbox housing (transfer box).
8. When assembling, align the cardan shaft marks made during disassembly.
Removal and installation
1. Disconnect the battery from the ground.
2. Remove the transmission assembly with the transfer case.
3. Remove the filling pipe, unscrew the plugs.
4. Remove detent spring and plunger (or ball).
5. Remove the spring loaded pin from the box changeover slider.
6. Turn away nuts/bolts and remove a distributing box.
7. Pay attention to the position of the 2 wire clamps of the transfer case mounting bolts.
8. When disconnecting the crankcases, remove the transfer case lever.
9. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
10. Replace gasket and install on 3M ART N 8001 or N 8011 sealant, lubricating both sides. Lubricate the output shaft of the transmission, which will facilitate its installation in the transfer case.
11. Tighten all connections to the required torque.
12. Spring loaded pin (2) press into slider (1) transfer case using tool MD998245-01 (beard allowed).
13. The groove of the pin must be turned in a certain way when pressing (withstand size 3-3.5mm) (1 - axis of symmetry of the transfer box control shaft).
