Plaque location
A plate indicating the type of transmission is attached to the bulkhead of the engine compartment.
Typical interpretation of plate data
From left to right: year of manufacture, month, type, control number for verification and serial number.
Cars of early releases were equipped with the Chrysler Torqueflite MA904A transmission. The transmission consists of a torque converter and a 3-speed gear change system with 2 multi-plate clutches, overrunning clutches and planetary gears, combined in a single crankcase. The hydraulic system consists of a pump and a valve block.
Other types of transmissions are 4-speed, with gear pump, with 3 multi-plate clutches, 3 overrunning clutches, 4 multi-plate brakes and 2 planetary gears. The gear ratio of 4th gear is 0.668:1, this gear is used as the highest gear when the engine speed is too high.
On KM148 and V4AW2 transmissions (3) a transfer case with constant meshing of gear teeth is installed. The box is switched to the position 2WD / 4WD (disengages or engages the front axle) and to the HIGH/LOW position (enabling or disabling the demultiplier on 4 driving wheels).
On the plate for V4AW2 transmissions (3), mounted on the bulkhead of the engine compartment, the type of transmission and gear ratios are indicated (last 4 numbers).
It is recommended to fill the transmission with Mopar ATF Plus Type 7176 or Dexron II fluid.
