Camshaft covers (engines 3.0)
The arrows on the camshaft covers must align with the arrow on the cylinder head.
1, 3. Arrows on the covers; 2. Places for applying sealant; 4. Arrows on the cylinder head; 5. Roller A; 6. To the side of the belt; 7. Roller B
Removing
1. Remove the cylinder head cover.
2. Put special brackets MB998443-01 on the hydraulic pushers. Loosen the camshaft journal cap bolts by applying slight pressure to the rocker arms.
3. Turn out bolts of covers in the direction from a forward cover to back, at the same time ask the assistant to securely hold a cam-shaft. The belt tension must not be allowed to increase sharply when the camshaft comes out of the bearings (otherwise, you will have to reinstall the camshaft and belt).
4. Once the roller has been removed, remove the back cover and reinstall with hand bolts. If necessary, this cover can be removed by replacing the middle cover.
Installation
1. Disassemble the mechanism, check the condition of the thrust surfaces of the rocker arms, the freedom of rotation of the roller, the wear of the mating parts and the cleanliness of the lubrication channels.
Replace worn parts.
2. Assemble the rollers with the covers, orienting so that the notches on the rollers face up and the covers are positioned according to their numbers.
Lubricate all details. When installing the rollers, the assistant must hold the camshaft.
3. Further assembly is carried out in the reverse order. Remove the brackets after tightening the mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts with a torque of 20 Nm.
