Turbocharger — general information, removal and installation

The turbocharger is driven by exhaust gases and is designed to force air into the engine cylinders and increase power. Boost pressure is limited by a separate damper (pressure control valve), providing the removal of part of the exhaust gases from the turbine.

For forced air cooling (about 30°C) and increasing its density at the inlet to the cylinder, an intermediate cooler is used ("intercooler"), installed at the inlet to the intake manifold.

The turbocharger, which rotates at 140,000 rpm, is lubricated by engine oil. The lubrication of this unit is subject to increased requirements (regular oil and filter changes, increased oil cleanliness).

Basic rules of operation

After starting a cold engine, warm it up at low speed (in cold weather 1-2 minutes), so that the viscosity of the oil drops to the desired level and the lubrication of the compressor improves.

Before stopping the engine after driving under severe conditions, it should be idling to prevent coking of the compressor oil passages.

If a warm engine stalls, immediately restart it to prevent excessive heat and compressor failure.
