Removing the lower part of the oil pan
Remove the central longitudinal beam.
Loosen the oil pan bottom bolts.
Install a block of wood on the side of the bottom of the oil pan as shown in the illustration.
By hitting the bar with a plastic mallet, separate the bottom of the oil pan from the top.
Attention! The upper part of the oil pan is made of aluminum, the use of an oil pan puller may deform it.
Removing the upper part of the oil pan
Loosen the upper oil pan bolts.
Install 2 bolts on each side of the sump into the threaded holes shown in the figure to separate the oil sump from the cylinder block.
Attention! The upper part of the oil pan is made of aluminum, the use of an oil pan puller may deform it.
Examination
Check the oil pan for damage.
Check the mating surface for deformation, nicks and cracks.
Check the oil pickup for damage, clogging or deformation of the screen and tube.
Installing the upper part of the oil pan
Clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder block and oil pan flange from the remnants of the old sealant.
Degrease the sealing surface on the oil pan flange and mating surface on the cylinder block
Apply a 4 mm bead of sealant around the entire oil pan flange as shown in the illustration.
Sealant MITSUBISHI GENUINE (Part № MD970389) or similar.
Attention! Make sure that the sealant does not protrude beyond the edge of the sump on the gearbox side.
Install and secure the oil pan within 15 minutes of applying the sealant. Tighten the oil pan mounting bolts sequentially diagonally in several steps.
Tightening torque: 9.0±3 Nm.
Attention! Do not insert bolts «IN» (gearbox side bolts) at an angle, as they can be damaged when tightened. Please note that the length of the bolts differs depending on the location of their installation.
Attention! After installing the oil pan, do not start the engine for 1 hour.
