Check the following before performing this test.
- Generator mounts.
- Make sure the battery in the vehicle is fully charged.
- Drive belt tension.
- Melting insert.
- The presence of extraneous noise coming from the generator when the engine is running.
Turn the ignition key to position «LOCK» («TURNED OFF»).
Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
With harness test generator (MV991519) connect a digital voltmeter between the terminal «S» generator and «weight» car. (Connect the positive lead of the voltmeter to the terminal «S», and the negative wire to a point that has a reliable connection with «weight» or to the negative terminal of the battery).
Connect a hanging DC ammeter with a measuring range of 0-120 A to the wire between the terminal «IN» generator and battery.
Attention! Connecting a conventional ammeter to a break in the circuit is possible if the electrical contact between the output is not broken «IN» generator and current wire.
Connect the negative cable to the battery.
Connect a tachometer or MUT-II/III diagnostic tool.
Turn the ignition key to position «ON» («IGNITION»). In this case, the voltmeter should show the voltage of the battery.
Attention! If the voltmeter shows a voltage of 0 V, then the probable cause of this may be a break in the connecting wire or a fusible link between the output «S» alternator and positive battery terminal.
Turn off all lights and other electrical consumers.
Start the engine.
Increase the engine speed to 2500 min-1.
Record the voltmeter reading at the moment when the generator current is equal to or less than 10 A.
If the measured voltage is within the specified range, then the voltage regulator is good.
If the measured voltage does not correspond to the established range, then the generator itself or the voltage regulator is faulty.
After checking, release the accelerator pedal.
Turn the ignition key to position «LOCK» («TURNED OFF»).
Disconnect the tachometer or MUT-II/III diagnostic tool.
Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Disconnect the ammeter and voltmeter.
Connect the alternator current lead to the terminal» IN» generator.
Disconnect the alternator test harness, reconnect all electrical connectors.
Connect the negative cable to the battery.
