Install the upper arm/control rod assembly as shown, with the color marks facing the trailing arm.
Examination
Check the condition of the bushings for wear or damage.
Check the condition of the control rod, upper and lower suspension arms for bending or damage.
Check the condition of all mounting bolts (thread condition and curvature).
Control rod/upper suspension arm/lower suspension arm torque check in support bearing
Check the condition of each support bearing as follows.
Insert a mounting bolt into the support bearing hole. On the opposite side, put on the washer and screw on the mounting nut.
Rotate the inner bearing bush several times, then use the special tool to (MV990326) measure the moment at which the thrust bearing bushing begins to turn.
Rated value: 0.5 - 3.0 Nm.
If the measured value is greater than the rated value, replace the control rod support bearing, or upper control arm or lower control arm.
If the measured value is less than the nominal value, check that the support bearing rotates freely without significant play.
In the absence of significant play and with smooth rotation, the thrust bearing can be reused.
Replacing the bushing and support bearing of the lower arm
Replace the lower control arm bush and support bearing by following the steps below.
Replacing the bushing of the lower arm
Attention! Since the outer diameter of the sleeve is different at its different ends, be careful not to confuse the installation direction of the sleeve.
Use the following special tool to press in/out the bushing.
- MB991447: bushing removal/installation tool.
- MB991448 base for removing / installing bushings.
- MB991449: support for removal/installation of bushings.
After pressing the sleeve, the distance between the edges of the outer sleeve of the sleeve and the lower lever should be 1.5 mm (see picture).
Replacing the support bearing of the lower suspension arm
Use the following special tool to press in/out the bushing.
- MB990957: Tool for removing/installing the bushing of the lower control arm.
- MB990969: Guide.
- MB990971: Foundation.
- MB990996: Mandrel for lower control arm bushing.
After the sleeve is pressed in, the distance between the edges of the outer sleeve of the sleeve and the lower arm should be 3.0 mm (see picture).
