Note: The procedure for checking the brake fluid level is given in chapter "Maintenance and general inspection and adjustment procedures".
Height adjustment of the brake pedal
− Remove the floor mat under the brake pedal.
− Measure the height of the brake pedal above the floor as shown in the figure.
Rated value "A" - 162.1- 172.1 mm
If the measured height "A" does not correspond to the nominal value, then to adjust it, perform the following operations:
- A) Disconnect the brake light switch connector.
- b) Loosen the brake light switch 0.25 turns.
- V) Remove the pin and adjust the height of the brake pedal above the floor by rotating the pusher so that it corresponds to the nominal value.
Note: Turning the stem 180°changes the height of the pedal by approximately 2.4mm.
- G) While holding the brake pedal at the highest possible height with your hand, turn the brake light switch until it touches the limiter.
- d) Tighten the switch by 0.25 turns and make sure that the gap between the limiter and the switch corresponds to that shown in the figure.
- e) Connect the connector to the brake light switch.
Note: Make sure the brake lights are off when the brake pedal is released.
4. Check the automatic transmission selector lock mechanism and the key lock mechanism in the ignition lock.
5. Reinstall the floor mat.
Checking the free play of the brake pedal
1. With the engine off, press the brake pedal two or three times. After reducing the vacuum in the vacuum brake booster, press the brake pedal by hand and check that the pedal free play "IN" (to a noticeable resistance to movement) corresponds to the nominal value.
Rated value "IN" — 3 - 8 mm
2. If the free play does not correspond to the nominal value, then perform the following checks:
- A) Checking the absence of increased clearance in the connection between the brake pedal lever and the pusher fork pin or the pusher pin and fork.
- b) Checking the height of the brake pedal.
- V) Checking the correct installation of the brake light switch, etc.
Checking the distance between the depressed brake pedal and the passenger compartment floor
1. Remove the floor mat under the brake pedal.
2. Start the engine, depress the brake pedal with a force of approximately 500 N and measure the distance "WITH" between the pressed brake pedal (on the top of the pedal) and interior floor (sloping panel for the driver's feet).
Rated value "WITH" - 90 mm or more
2. If the measured distance is less than the nominal value, perform the following checks:
- A) Check the absence of air in the hydraulic system of the brakes.
- b) Checking the thickness of the brake pads for disc brakes or drum brakes.
- V) Checking the absence of wedging of the parking brake.
3. If necessary, adjust or replace defective parts.
4. Reinstall the floor mat.
