Throttle position sensor — check

The throttle position sensor is mounted on the throttle valve shaft and transmits information about the throttle position to the engine control unit. The sensor consists of a variable resistor (potentiometer). The resistance of the sensor changes depending on the angle of rotation of the throttle. If there is a defect in the sensor on vehicles with an automatic transmission, bumps are observed when shifting gears.



Disconnect the throttle position sensor connector and connect an ohmmeter between pin 1 (sensor supply) and pin 4 (sensor mass). Required value: 3.5-6.5 kOhm.



Connect an ohmmeter between pins 2 (sensor output) and 4 (sensor mass). Then slowly move the throttle from idle to full throttle while observing a change in resistance proportional to throttle movement.
Connector pinout differences:

• engine 1.5 l, release from 9.88 to 4.89: ground = pin 2; output = pin 3.
• 16-valve engine, release from 9.88 to 4.89: ground = pin 2; output = pin 4.
