The start of the feed can be checked both on the removed and on the installed engine. To check, a dial indicator is required with the appropriate adapter to screw it into the pump.
Verification conditions:
- Correct toothed belt tension see item 1.12.
- Proper motor control see paragraph 1.18.
- The engine is at operating temperature (coolant temperature approx. 80°C). Fast idle mode engaged, see fig. K-2402.
Examination
Switch off the ignition.
Set crankshaft to TDC cylinder 1.
Loosen the union nuts of the injection pipe on the pump using a wrench. In this case, hold the pressure valve with a wrench.
Unscrew the bolt (control plug) on the cover of the injection pump.
Screw in an adapter, e.g. MITSUBISHI MD-998720, and a small dial indicator (measuring range from 0 to 3.0 mm) instead of a control plug.
Rotate the crankshaft anti-clockwise/negative about 30°before TDC. Check if the adapter is inserted correctly. Set the dial indicator to "0".
Rotate the pulley slightly to both sides and check if the dial indicator needle is moving. After that, precisely set the pulley to the position of the crankshaft 30°before TDC.
Turn the crankshaft clockwise to position 7°after TDC. In this case, the dial indicator should show the required value. Required value: 0.97-1.03 mm.
Attention: If the measured value is within the specified tolerance, no new adjustment is required. When making a new adjustment, set the value to 10 mm.
Adjustment
If the measured value is not within the specified range, loosen the 2 injection pump nuts slightly, see fig. K-2401.
Turn the injection pump to the right or left until a measured value of 1 mm is obtained and temporarily tighten the nuts of the injection pump.
Repeat the feed start test and correct the setting if necessary.
Unscrew the adapter with a dial indicator and screw on the control plug with a new gasket, tightening to 15 Nm. In case of leaks, tighten the bolt to 20 Nm.
