Checking Valve Directions — All Engines

When repairing a cylinder head with leaking valves, it is not enough to treat or replace the valves and seats. In addition, checking valve guide wear is essential. Checking for high mileage engines is especially important. Worn guides do not center the valve seat and increase oil consumption. If wear is severe, the guide bushings must be replaced (workshop work).

Remove valve.

Clean the guide bush with a cylindrical brush.



Insert the valve into the guide and check the play by shaking the valve.

Attach a steel ruler to check. There should be practically no backlash.



Otherwise, give the guides for revision (workshop work).

Attention: Do not install guides of the previous size under any circumstances.
