Engine Troubleshooting

If the engine does not start, a systematic analysis of the defect should be carried out. In order for an engine to start at all, two fundamental conditions must be met for a gasoline engine. An air-fuel mixture should flow into the cylinders and an ignition spark should form in the candles. Therefore, first of all, you should check whether fuel is supplied at all. How to do this is described in the sections "Carburetor" And "injection device".

Attention: On vehicles with a catalyst, the starter must not be driven aimlessly for a long time, as this may damage the catalyst, see also paragraph 10.4.

Fault: The engine does not start well or does not start at all




*) 16-valve engines do not have adjustable valve clearances, as they are equipped with a maintenance-free gap compensator. The gap compensator needs to be checked and possibly replaced.
