Removal, petrol engine
Disconnect the earth cable from the battery.
Attention: This erases data in the electronic memory, such as the engine fault memory or the radio code. Disconnect the battery only when the ignition is off, otherwise the control unit of the fuel injection device may fail. Before disconnecting the battery, read the instructions in sections "Radio" And "Removing and installing the battery".
Drain the coolant and collect it, see point 3.3.
Diesel engine: Remove upper part of intake manifold, see point 1.10.
Petrol engine: Remove lower cover.
Remove toothed belt see point 1.6.
Diesel engine: Remove toothed belt tensioner, see item 1.11.
Loosen the V-belt tensioner.
Loosen the coolant pump mounting bolts on the engine block, remove the coolant pump with gasket.
Remove the O-ring from the coolant inlet fitting (or remove from the middle coolant pipe).
Examination
Check all parts of the coolant pump for cracks, damage and wear.
Turn the pump by hand and look for unusual noises or heavy running. Replace pump if necessary.
If through the hole "A" water comes out, the bearing seal is defective. In this case, the pump must be replaced.
Installation
Using a scraper, carefully remove the remaining sealing compound from the surfaces of the coolant pump housing and engine block.
Insert a new O-ring into the groove at the front end of the intake pipe. Moisten the O-ring with water before installing the coolant pump.
Caution: Never apply oil or grease to the O-ring.
Replace paper gasket, do not use any additional sealant. The mating surfaces must be dry and clean.
Petrol engines 1.2 / 1.3 / 1.5 l
Petrol engines 1.6 / 1.8 l
diesel engine
Install the coolant pump, screw in and hand tighten the mounting bolts in accordance with their length.
Tighten all bolts to the torques indicated on their heads.
- Marking "4": 15 Nm
- Marking "7": 25 Nm
Check that the coolant pump rotates freely and is not obstructed.
Fasten the generator extension with a force of 25 Nm.
Diesel engine: Tighten toothed belt tensioner with 55 Nm.
Install toothed belt see point 1.6.
Install the V-belt see paragraph 1.21.
- Diesel engine: Install upper intake manifold.
- Petrol engine: Install lower cover.
Connect ground cable to battery.
Set the clock, if available, and enter the radio's security code.
After a test drive, check the cooling system for leaks.
