- Yama Pit or hydraulic lift with stands.
- Special tool for unscrewing the filter (Oil filter pliers, band wrench or HAZET tool 2172).
- A set of wrench heads for removing the oil drain plug, as well as a container for collecting used oil (if the oil is not being sucked out) with a volume of at least 6 liters.
The following replacement parts are required:
- Only if the oil is not being sucked out: Copper O-ring on the oil drain plug (sometimes contained in the oil filter package).
- Oil filter cartridge. When buying, name the model and year of manufacture.
- Depending on the type of engine, from 3.8' to 5.6 liters of engine oil. Use only oil prescribed by MITSUBISHI, see point 2.
Amount of oil to be changed:
- The oil level should be between the MAX and MIN·marks on the end of the dipstick.
The oil change is carried out at different intervals depending on the type of engine, see "Maintenance Plan". As a rule, the oil filter is also replaced at the same time. Under severe operating conditions, such as frequent cold engine starts and very dusty roads, the oil and oil filter should be changed more frequently. Oil can be aspirated through a probe (at gas stations) and oil measuring tube. In any case, you should buy oil at the appropriate gas station.
Oil drain
- Warm up the engine to operating temperature (coolant temperature 80°- 90°C), for which drive a car 10-15 km.
Attention: Engine oil can also be sucked off with a probe.
- Raise the car in a horizontal position, see par. 29.
- Unscrew the oil filler cap.
- Place a container under the oil pan to collect the oil.
- Unscrew oil drain plug -arrow- on oil sump and drain oil from engine. Caution: Be careful when draining. The oil is hot.
Attention: If metal filings or abrasion products are found in the drained oil, this indicates the presence of damage, for example, crankshaft bearings or connecting rods. To prevent consequences, rinse the oil channels well after repairing the engine.
F Remove the oil filter. The oil filter is located at the front of the engine block. To remove the oil filter, a special tool is required, such as HAZET 2171. You can also drive a sharp screwdriver into the oil filter from the side. In this case, oil will flow - substitute the vessel.
Oil filling
- Screw in the oil drain plug and tighten to 40 Nm.
- Flush the oil filter flange on the engine block with oil. Remove any remaining filter gasket.
- Lightly coat the oil filter rubber seal with engine oil.
Screw on the new oil filter by hand. After the oil filter gasket is in contact with the engine block, tighten the filter one more turn. Torque: 15 Nm. Follow the oil filter manufacturer's instructions.
Attention: The oil filter can only be installed on the corresponding car model.
Fill in new oil through the oil filler neck on the cylinder head. Then check the oil level in the engine with an oil dipstick.
Attention: It is recommended to fill in ½ l less oil, warm up the engine and after a few minutes check the oil level with an oil dipstick and top up if necessary. When oil is overfilled, excess oil must be sucked off, otherwise the seals and the catalyst may be damaged.
- After a test drive, check the tightness of the drain plug and oil filter, tighten carefully if necessary.
- Stop the warm engine and check the oil level again after 2 minutes, correct the oil level if necessary.
- To better control the operation of the engine, when changing, constantly fill in oil of the same type and also of the same brand, therefore it is advisable to place a sticker on the engine with a mark of the brand and viscosity of the filled oil at each oil change.
- Indiscriminately changing oil types is harmful. Engine oils of the same type but different grades should not be mixed if possible. Engine oils of the same type and the same brand, but of different viscosities, can be topped up if necessary during the change of seasons without consequences.
