Since the oil spills over a large surface during a leak, it is very difficult to determine the location of the leak at first glance. When searching, it is advisable to do the following:
- Wash the engine. Spray the engine with a commercially available cold cleaner and rinse with water after a short time. Before this, close the ignition distributor and the generator with plastic covers.
- Sprinkle with chalk or talcum powder the joints and gaskets on the engine.
- Check oil level, top up if necessary.
- Make a test drive. Since oil on a hot engine thins and seeps through a leak faster, a test drive should be made on a freeway for at least 30 km.
- Inspect the engine with the carrier, locate leaks and repair leaks.
