The electrical circuit of the starter of a gasoline engine
If the traction relay fails, the starter gear does not engage with the flywheel ring gear. Because of this, the starter cannot crank the engine.
Note: On diesel engines, the starter current circuit is activated via the auxiliary starter relay.
Examination
Remove starter.
Starter without gear
Remove the exciter wire from terminal C.
Connect wires to battery "cigarette lighter", as shown in the pictures. The starter gear should jerk forward.
Attention: The wires must be connected for no longer than 5 seconds, otherwise the winding of the traction relay will burn out.
Remove the ground wire from terminal C. The starter gear must remain in the extended position, otherwise replace the traction relay.
Starter with gearbox (only on diesel engines and 136 hp engines. release since 9.88)
Remove ground wire from starter housing. The starter gear must retract, otherwise replace the traction relay.
Removing
Loosen 2 mounting bolts and disconnect the start relay wire terminal from the drive housing, disconnect the start relay Remove the spacers
Installation
Install the start relay with spacers, connect to the lever in the starter and secure.
Check the traction relay as described above.
Install starter.
