Removing
Disconnect the earth cable from the battery.
Attention: This erases data in the electronic memory, such as the engine fault memory or the radio code. Before disconnecting the battery, read the instructions in section "Removing and installing the battery".
Mark the position of the wiper blades on the glass with adhesive tape so that they stand up when installed in their original place.
Disconnect the brush arms and remove them from the wiper axles.
Windshield wiper
Remove the cover from the water collection compartment, see 20.9.
Disconnect the connector from the wiper motor.
Windshield wiper
Remove the cover from the water collection compartment, see 20.9.
Disconnect the connector from the wiper motor.
Remove the motor mount from the body by unscrewing 3 bolts.
Remove wiper rods from motor ball studs.
Unscrew the rods from the wiper axles and pull them out as a set, see fig. K-6002.
Rear wiper
Remove the lining of the tailgate, for which release the lining from the clips with a wide plastic spatula. The picture shows the location of the clamps on a COLT from September 1988.
Disconnect the connector from the wiper motor.
Remove the outer rubber bushing from the wiper shaft.
Loosen the 3 motor mounting bolts and remove the motor.
Installation
Before installing a new motor, bring it to a standstill position. To do this, connect the connector and let the motor run for about 1 minute. Then turn off the motor with the wiper switch and, after letting it reach the rest position, remove the connector.
Front wiper
Insert wiper rods and lightly tighten to 5 Nm.
Connect the connector and let the motor come to rest.
Put the drive rods on the motor crank.
Fasten the motor.
Insert and fasten the catchment cover.
Push the wiper arms onto the wiper shaft in the end position and tighten to 15 Nm. In the final position, the brushes should be 15-20 mm from the lower edge of the glass, only the right brush on vehicles with 9.88: 30 mm.
Rear wiper
Attach the wiper motor to the tailgate.
On vehicles manufactured from 9.88 on, fit the rubber bushing onto the wiper shaft in such a way that the arrow printed on it points back towards the bumper. On cars of release up to 8.88, the arrow opposite should point forward in the direction of the car.
Plug in the connector and let the motor come to rest. Tighten the brush arm with a force of 10 Nm in such a position that it is parallel to the bottom edge of the glass in the final position.
Fasten tailgate trim.
Put on the caps on the wiper shaft.
Connect ground cable to battery.
Check the operation of the windshield wipers.
If available, set the time on the clock and enter the security code into the radio.
