Removing
Remove rear spring strut.
To remove the shock absorber, you must first compress the spring. At the service station, a special device is used for this.
Attention: Never remove the shock absorber if the spring is not compressed.
Compress the spring with a tensioner. Insert the rear spring strut into the fixture and compress the spring slowly and evenly until the top spring cup is relieved.
Attention: If the hooks of the fixture are inserted into the coils of the spring, make sure that the hooks are firmly engaged and that the hooks cannot come off the spring. Be sure to compress the spring from two opposite sides. The spring force is high, so use only a strong tool. Never tighten the spring with wire. Danger of accident!
Caution: The fastening nut can only be removed after the spring has been securely compressed.
Release the fastening nut. While doing this, hold the piston rod with a wrench.
Remove individual parts -2- to -10-, see fig. K-3804.
Caution: When replacing the spring, release the spring slowly. When replacing the shock absorber, the spring remains compressed.
Installation
Check shock absorber before installation. When disposing, release the gas, see point 14.4.
If the spring is being replaced, compress the new spring.
Put on the coil spring. Make sure that the spring fits correctly on the lugs of the lower spring seat.
Assemble the individual parts of the spring strut. At the same time, snap the cap into the boot, as shown in the figure.
Put on the upper spring strut support and straighten it over the lower shock absorber holder, see illustration.
Tighten the new self-locking nut to 50 Nm while holding the piston rod with a ring wrench.
Slowly decompress the spring. At the same time, make sure that the ends of the spring are correctly inserted into the spring pads.
Install rear spring strut see point 15.2.
