Removing
lift the car, see par. 29.
Press the steering knuckle joints out of the steering knuckle. Before that, pull out the safety pin and give the nut.
Remove rear mounting bolts -4- to center carrier.
Release mounting bolt -5- of silent block.
Unscrew the stabilizer from the connecting element (screeds). While doing this, hold the hinge with a hexagon socket wrench.
Attention: On cars manufactured from January 19894 to August 1988, the stabilizer is connected by bushings with a through bolt, ball plates and rubber bearings.
Loosen stabilizer clamps.
Pull the stabilizer together with the rubber mounts through the hole for the steering rods of the body.
Installation
Before installation, check the condition of the rubber mounts, replace cracked and damaged rubber mounts.
Insert stabilizer.
Attention: Different clamps are installed on the left and on the right for fastening the stabilizer rubber mounts. To distinguish, consider distinctive markings. The right collar is marked R, the left one is marked L.
Attach the clamps of the stabilizer rubber mounts to the bottom so that they securely compress the stabilizer bushing noses.
Position the stabilizer bush on the left side so that it is about 5 mm from the end of the marked area of the stabilizer, see illustration. Tighten the clamps, then install the right bushing in the same way. Tighten the mounting bolts to 25 Nm.
Check straps. To do this, manually rotate the tie rods in all directions. They should turn easily, but without play.
Screw the tie rods with new self-locking nuts to a torque of 70 Nm to the transverse link and stabilizer bar. When tightening the nuts, hold the hinge with an Allen key.
Vehicles from 1.84 to 8.88: Attach stabilizer with bushing and rubber mounts to transverse arm. Screw the fastening nut so that the thread outlet of the through bolt is 21-23 mm.
Tighten the bolt securing the rear silent block.
Tighten the center beam mounting bolts.
Insert steering knuckle head into steering knuckle and tighten to 15 Nm. Insert and bend new cotter pin. If the pin does not fit, tighten the bolt (max, up to 35 Nm) before opening the hole for the cotter pin.
Lower the car.
