Removing
Loosen the wheel nuts on both front wheels on the ground.
Mark the position of the rim on the wheel hub with paint. This ensures that the balanced wheel is reinstalled in its original place.
Raise the front of the car see par. 29.
Remove wheel.
Support the front wishbone so that the drive shaft does not sag when the front strut is removed. To do this, place a suitable stand or hydraulic jack under the control arm. Optionally wire the steering knuckle to the body to prevent tension on the brake hose or wheel speed sensor cable from the weight of the steering knuckle.
Disconnect the front brake pipe retainer.
Attention: Do not open the pipeline, otherwise after installation it will be necessary to remove air from the brake system.
1 - The holder of fastening of the gauge of number of turns of a forward wheel
If equipped, disconnect the front wheel speed sensor clamps. Do not pull on the cable while doing this.
Loosen the front strut lower mounting nuts and remove the bolts.
Attention: do not allow the transverse arm and steering knuckle to fall.
Vehicles from 9.88 to 3.92
Loosen both fixing nuts at the top of the A-pillar and pull out the A-pillar as a set. At the same time, make sure that the rubber seals on the drive shaft are not damaged by the A-pillar being removed. If necessary, wrap the cuffs with a cloth for protection.
Attention: Do not loosen the front strut center nut under any circumstances, as the spring is strongly compressed!
Release cars from 1.84 to 8.88
Loosen the front strut top nut with a bent ring spanner while holding the piston rod with an Allen wrench.
Remove the top stop, as well as the stop rubber.
Installation
Insert the front strut from below, aligning it with the steering knuckle.
Insert the elastic band of the stop and the stop of the front pillar, screw the fastening nut without tightening.
Vehicles from 9.88 to 3.92
Insert the A-pillar from below so that it is in the middle of the niche. Pay attention to the fact that the inscription "FRONT" was facing in the direction of the vehicle, otherwise the value of the angle of longitudinal inclination of the kingpin of the front wheel will be lost.
Install two nuts onto the stud at the top of the A-pillar. Tighten the nuts with a torque wrench to 45 Nm.
Attach the front strut to the steering knuckle with new nuts.
Attention: Insert both bolts from back to front, first tighten the nuts slightly by hand, then tighten them firmly (for cars manufactured from September 1988 to March 1992) 130 Nm. On vehicles manufactured from January 1984 to August 1988, tighten the nuts to 90 Nm. Then tighten the top nut to 60 Nm.
Attach the brake hose holder and, if present, the sensor cable.
Install the wheel, while observing the markings made with respect to the hub. Lower the vehicle and tighten the cross wheel nuts. For tightening torque, see section 19.4.
As soon as possible, check the alignment of the front wheels, if necessary, adjust the camber, see point 17.
