Attention: if the fan does not run at only one speed, the ballast resistor is usually defective. The fan needs to be removed to replace the resistor.
Removing
Disconnect the earth cable from the battery.
Attention: This erases data in the electronic memory, such as the engine fault memory or the radio code. Disconnect the battery only when the ignition is off, otherwise the control unit of the fuel injection device may fail. Before disconnecting the battery, read the instructions in sections "Radio" And "Removing and installing the battery".
Take off "glove box" and the right drawer for small change, see p. 20.17/20.18.
Disconnect the cable for controlling the intake of a mixture of external and internal air from the fan.
Separate the air duct from the fan.
Loosen bolts -arrows- and remove fan.
Disconnect motor -11-. Resistance -9- is located on the fan housing. If necessary, replace the resistance. Other parts shown in the picture. 10 - fan rotor, 5 - heater relay, 6 - heater housing, 7 - channel, 8 - fan housing.
Note: To remove the heater housing, the entire instrument panel must first be removed.
Connect the fan motor to the battery. The motor should rotate normally. Otherwise, replace the motor.
If the motor is running normally, the heater relay, switch, or open circuit failed.
Remove foreign objects from the air duct.
Installation
Put the motor and fix it, while not forgetting to put the gasket. Replace damaged gasket.
Install the air mixture adjustment cable, see point 22.4.
Install the fan, all trims and "glove box" in reverse order.
Connect ground cable to battery.
If available, set the time on the clock and enter the security code into the radio.
