Removing needle bearings
Removal of needle bearings is carried out using a press and mandrels. At the same time, the opposite cup of the needle bearing race is pressed out with a pressure mandrel, which passes into the hole of the opposite mandrel.
Spline connections
Before separating the spline connections, apply the alignment marks as shown in rice. M2 4.032.
Removing the outboard bearing
The outboard bearing is removed using a universal puller (1).
Hanger bearing assembly
Disassembly sequence: 1. Retaining ring; 2. Oiler; 3. Needle bearings; 4. Cross with necks of needle bearings; 5. Cardan joint flange; 6. Splined bushing with universal joint yoke (for vehicles with Easy select 4WD drive system. Hinge type 1 - with external circlips); 7. Splined bushing with universal joint yoke (for vehicles with Super select 4WD drive system hinge type 1 - with external circlips); 8. Front driveshaft (for vehicles with Easy select 4WD drive system); 9. Splined sleeve with universal joint fork; 10. Rear driveshaft (for vehicles with Super select 4WD drive system. Hinge type 2 - with internal circlips); 11 Rear driveshaft (for vehicles with 2WD drive system and Easy select 4WD. Hinge type 2 - with internal circlips); 12. Splined sleeve with universal joint fork; 13. Hanging (intermediate) bearing assembly; 14. Front driveshaft (for vehicles with 2WD drive system and Easy select 4WD. Hinge type 2 - with internal circlips)
Assembly of universal joints
To install the needle bearing cup circlips, gently compress them with a press.
3. Align the alignment marks (1) (see fig. M2 4.039) and install the needle bearing cups.
Installing retaining rings
Use circlips of the same thickness on opposite sides of the cross.
When set in verse» rings, measure the gap (A) between rings and groove walls. The gap should be no more than 0.06 mm.
If the gap is greater than specified, select circlips of suitable thickness.
