Checking the travel of the lever or pull rod of the parking brake
Tighten lever (cravings) to the stop with a force of 200 N (20 kg), and count the number of clicks of the latch.
Nominal clicks for:
- parking brake lever (type I) - 8-9;
- parking brake linkage (type II) - 11-13.
For other values, it is necessary to adjust the stroke of the lever (thrust).
Lever Travel Adjustment (type I) parking brake
Remove the rear console sang. fully release the lever and unscrew the adjusting nut, loosen the tension of the cables.
Start the engine several times (5-6) depress the brake pedal and check that the pedal travel does not change. This indicates that the mechanism for automatically adjusting the gap between the brake drum and pads is working properly.
Turn the adjusting nut to adjust the stroke (number of clicks to fully tighten) in accordance with the data above (8-9 clicks). After adjustment, make sure there is no gap between the lever body and the adjusting nut (with lever released). Raise the rear of the vehicle with a jack and make sure that (with the parking brake released) Wheels rotate freely without binding.
Stroke adjustment (type II) parking brake
Completely release the rod and, unscrewing the adjusting nuts, loosen the tension of the cables.
Start the engine several times (5-6) depress the brake pedal and check that the pedal travel does not change. This indicates that the mechanism for automatically adjusting the gap between the brake drum and pads is working properly.
Turn the adjusting nuts to adjust the stroke (number of clicks to fully tighten) in accordance with the data above (11-13 clicks).
After adjustment, make sure that the angle between the connecting rod and equalizer is 90°, as shown in figure M2 1.060.
Caution: If the parking brake is less than the specified amount of full stroke, the brake pads may seize.
Raise the rear of the vehicle with a jack and make sure that (with the parking brake released) Wheels rotate freely without binding.
