Removing
1. Mark the seating position of the hinge in the body of your clamp. Using special pliers, remove the retaining rings.
2. Using a large clamp, squeeze the bearing necks of the cross out of the clamp: a bushing of a suitable size is installed on the fixed part of the clamp, into which the neck is squeezed out - if necessary, tap on the clamp with a soft-faced hammer. After releasing the neck, remove the bearing. Proceeding in a similar manner, remove the remaining bearings and remove the cross.
Installation
1. Lubricate the bearing journals, oil pans, boot lips, and needle roller bearings of the replacement universal joint with multipurpose grease.
Do not overdo it - excess lubrication can lead to errors in the selection of retaining rings and damage to the bearing caps.
2. Using a clamp, press the bearings into the clamp and fix them with new retaining rings, equal in thickness to those removed during the dismantling of the assembly. The final tapping of the necks can be done using a brass punch with a diameter of 15 mm.
3. Using a blade-type feeler gauge, determine the clearances of the circlips in their grooves. If the measurement result is out of range (0.02÷0.06 mm), the corresponding ring must be replaced.
