The following main schemes for the overhaul of the engine can be distinguished:
Repair and replacement of components on an individual basis - If the condition of the block and the main internal components of the engine is found satisfactory during the inspection, the most reasonable solution is to service them individually. In this case, you should carefully check the condition of the block, crankshaft and connecting rod and piston groups. Even with a very slight degree of block wear, its cylinder mirrors must be honed without fail.
Using a reduced engine block set - The reduced set includes a cylinder block with a crankshaft and connecting rod and piston groups already installed in it. At the same time, all crankshaft bearings are equipped with new liners, and their working clearances are precisely adjusted. Further, such a set is retrofitted with camshafts removed from the old engine, valve mechanism components, cylinder heads and attachments without any global mechanical work.
Using Extended Engine Block Kit - Extended Kit is a reduced kit, plus oil pump, oil pan, cylinder head with cover, camshaft, valve train components and timing gear (gears/sprockets with timing belt/chain) with lids. All provided bearings, seals and gaskets are new, the gaps are adjusted. It remains only to connect the intake pipeline with the exhaust manifold and attachments to the block.
It is also possible to replace the engine assembly. Many branded service centers offer a similar service, exchanging worn-out units for new or refurbished units on an exchange basis, and the latter are often covered by warranty as new.
Before choosing any of the above engine overhaul schemes and proceeding with the purchase of the appropriate replacement components, consult with car service specialists, representatives of your car manufacturer's company service center and more experienced motorists.
