Attention! Maintenance of the exhaust system should be started only after its components have completely cooled down - remember that the surface of the catalytic converter during the operation of the car can heat up to very high temperatures! Track reliability of fixing of the car in the lifted position.
General information
The models covered in this manual are equipped with one of two types of exhaust system. In one design, gasketed and bolted flange connections are used to articulate the sections of the system, while in the other, sliding clamp ties are used.
Due to the fact that during the operation of the vehicle, the components of the exhaust system are constantly exposed to aggressive environmental influences and high temperatures, assembly components may be "firmly stuck" to each other, therefore, before proceeding with the release of fasteners, the joints of the corresponding sections should be impregnated with penetrating oil. In especially severe cases, you will have to use a hacksaw, chisel or autogenous. It would be best to entrust the replacement of system components to car service specialists.
Checking the Status of Components
1. The condition of the components of the exhaust system should be checked on a regular basis in accordance with the Vehicle Maintenance Schedule (see chapter Settings and ongoing maintenance).
2. Jack up the car and put it on stands. Remove the thermal shields restricting the field of view and access.
3. The check should begin with an inspection of the junction of the front pipe of the exhaust system with the exhaust manifold / turbocharger.
4. Carefully inspect the system along its entire length, checking sections and components for deformation, signs of leakage, open seams, and other mechanical defects.
5. Evaluate the condition of the rubber hangers of the system supports. Replace defective elements.
