1. Transmission oil change must be carried out in strict accordance with the vehicle maintenance schedule (see Section Mitsubishi Galant/Mirage/Diamante Routine Maintenance Schedule).
2. Prepare a supply of fresh gear oil of the required grade (see Specifications), a drain pan of a suitable size, an appropriately sized wrench, and a supply of clean rags/old newspapers.
3. Oil should be drained after being preheated to normal operating temperature during a short trip. Hot oil has a higher fluidity and is better at flushing out sludge and other deposits. After warming up the transmission, park the vehicle on a hard, level surface, jack it up and place it on jack stands so that the crankcase drain plug is easily accessible. First, unscrew the filler, then the drain plugs and drain the oil into the prepared container.
4. After the oil leakage stops, wipe the drain plug, screw it into its regular place and tighten with the required force (30 Nm).
5. Through the filler / control hole, pump the required amount of fresh gear oil into the gearbox crankcase - use a hand pump, syringe or funnel. The level can be considered normalized when the oil begins to flow out through the bottom edge of the hole.
6. Screw the plug into place and tighten to the required torque (30 Nm). Lower the car to the ground.
7. Take the car for a short trip, after which check the drain and filler plugs of the gearbox crankcase for signs of leaks.
