1. Protective covers are used to prevent dirt from entering the constant velocity joints (CV joints) drive shafts of the car, and also keep grease stuffed into the joints. The ingress of grease and oil on the outer surfaces of the protective covers leads to their premature failure, which is why the covers should be periodically inspected and thoroughly washed with a solution of soapy water.
2. After cleaning the covers, check them for cracks, cuts and traces of grease leaks. Defective covers must be replaced (see chapter Clutch and transmission line). Evaluate the reliability of tightening the bandage tapes for fastening the covers.
