1. The task of the fuel vapor recovery system (EVAP) is the removal of fuel vapors that are chipped in the fuel tank and the cavities of the power system tract during parking to a special coal adsorber, from which, after starting the engine, they are discharged into the intake pipeline and burned in the combustion chambers.
2. The most typical symptom of a malfunction of the EVAP system is the appearance of a strong smell of gasoline in the engine compartment of the car. If such a smell appears, you should immediately check the condition of the carbon adsorber, usually located in the arch of one of the front wheels, less often (on latest models) - behind the car. Check the adsorber housing and fitting connections of the hoses connected to it for cracks and other mechanical damage.
3. A detailed description of the design and principle of operation of the EVAP system is given in Chapter Engine management systems.
