Examination
1. On all models considered in this manual for the distribution drive (s) shafts from the crankshaft of the engine, a toothed timing belt is used (And), which guarantees the preservation of the valve timing settings.
2. The condition of the timing belts should be checked regularly, strictly in accordance with the vehicle's routine maintenance schedule (see Section Mitsubishi Galant/Mirage/Diamante Routine Maintenance Schedule). A broken belt causes the engine to stop immediately, and on some models (1.6L, 2.0L, 2.4L, 3.0L and 3.5L) can cause severe internal engine damage due to valves hitting the piston crowns.
On the last belt replacement (to her) timing drive must be carried out every 96,000 km!
3. Timing belt wear can cause a reduction in the efficiency of the engine's output. Regularly check the belts along their entire length for cracks, cuts, delaminations, damage to the teeth and fabric backing. Replace if necessary.
