Standard control panel for the operation of ventilation, heating and air conditioning systems
A general view of the control panel with indication of the location of the handles is shown in the accompanying illustration.
Fan speed selection knob
Turning the handle clockwise increases the fan speed and, consequently, the intensity of the air supply to the vehicle interior. Turning the handle to the extreme left position turns off the fan.
Air temperature controller knob
Turning the knob clockwise increases the temperature of the air entering the passenger compartment.
Air conditioner switch
The button is for turning the air conditioner on and off. When the air conditioner is turned on, the control lamp built into the button lights up. Switching off K/V is made by repeated pressing of the button (the control lamp should go out).
Air circulation switch
This button activates the air circulation mode in the passenger compartment. The button is equipped with a built-in control lamp. When the mode is turned on, the interior of the car is isolated from the external environment and the flow of fresh air into it stops. The fan circulates air in a closed circuit. By pressing the button again (the control lamp should go out), the fresh air supply to the passenger compartment will resume. The mode is designed to quickly warm up / cool down the air inside the car, and can also be turned on while driving through areas with foul-smelling air.
Note. Do not turn on the circulation mode for a long time, as the air quickly becomes stale.
The handle of switching of the directions of distribution of air
1. The handle is designed to select the mode of air distribution throughout the cabin.
Note. Air supply through the side deflectors of the instrument panel is carried out in all modes. The general scheme of air flow distribution is shown in the illustration.
2. The scheme of air distribution in accordance with the choice of mode is presented in the table.
Note. Air is supplied through the central and side deflectors regardless of the position of the handle.
Mode selection
Deflectors through which air is supplied:
Air supply to the upper part of the cabin
Air supply to the upper part of the cabin and to the footwells
Air supply to footwells
Air supply to the foot wells and to blow the windshield and side windows
Air supply for blowing windows
Ventilation grill deflector control
Adjustment of the intensity and direction of distribution of the air flow through the side deflectors of the instrument panel
3 - Air supply intensity regulator
4 - Air supply direction regulator
The deflectors of the central and side air ducts of the instrument panel are equipped with special rotary louvre grilles, in addition, the deflectors themselves are able to rotate relative to the horizontal axis, which allows you to adjust the direction of the air flow in both horizontal and vertical planes. The deflectors are controlled using levers built into the nozzle grille, the air supply intensity is selected by a ring regulator built into the deflector lining.
Instructions for the use of ventilation, heating and air conditioning systems
Below are detailed instructions for the operation of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems in various climatic conditions. The reader is provided with information on how to ensure efficient ventilation, heating and cooling of the air in the car, as well as how to quickly remove condensation and frost from the windows.
All systems under consideration operate only when the engine is running. The engine coolant is used as the working fluid for the heater. If the engine is not warmed up to normal operating temperature, it will take several minutes before warm air is blown into the passenger compartment. The operation of the air conditioning system is independent of the engine coolant temperature.
In the vast majority of cases, the best performance of systems that provide a comfortable microclimate is achieved in the mode of supplying outside air to the passenger compartment. Long-term activation of the closed circulation mode, especially when the air conditioner is not working, leads to fogging of the windows and an increase in the stuffiness of the air, therefore it is recommended to turn on this mode only if necessary and for a relatively short time, for example, when driving through areas with a smoky or polluted atmosphere. As soon as it is no longer necessary to isolate the passenger compartment, the supply of fresh air to the passenger compartment must be resumed.
Outside atmospheric air enters the heating and air conditioning systems through the intake grill located in front of the windshield and equipped with a fairing. Periodically clean the openings of the intake grille from leaves and other debris that obstructs the passage of air.
Vehicle interior ventilation
The supply and exhaust ventilation system provides a constant exchange of air in the car. Fresh outside air, which enters through the front intake grille, circulates through the passenger compartment and is then expelled through outlets located near the rear window:
- a) Turn the air temperature control knob counterclockwise as far as it will go. Check that the air conditioner is turned off;
- b) Set the air direction switch knob to the position. The air circulation mode must be turned off;
- c) Use the blower speed selector to set the desired air supply to the vehicle interior.
Cooling the air in the car
Interior cooling is carried out as follows:
- a) Turn on the air conditioner by pressing the button "A/C", - the control lamp built into the switch should light up;
- b) Check that the air temperature control knob is turned to the leftmost position.
- c) Set the air supply direction switch knob to the position;
- d) At high humidity of the outside air, turn on the circulation mode, at low humidity, turn on the fresh air inflow mode;
- e) Use the blower speed selector to set the desired airflow rate to the passenger compartment.
If the vehicle has been exposed to the sun for a long time and the air in the passenger compartment is very hot, quickly reduce the temperature in the passenger compartment as follows:
- a) Start the engine;
- b) Turn on the air conditioner. Check that the air temperature regulator knob is turned to the extreme left position;
- c) Using the fan speed selection knob, set the maximum intensity of the air supply to the passenger compartment;
- d) Partially open the windows and turn the air distribution direction switch knob to the position. Turn on fresh air mode.
Once the interior temperature has dropped to an acceptable level, close the windows and set the air conditioning to normal (see above).
The operation of the air conditioning system leads to an increase in the load on the car engine, so you should carefully monitor the arrow of the coolant temperature gauge (see Section Instrumentation and controls), moving with frequent stops and at low speed in a busy urban cycle, or overcoming long climbs of considerable steepness. When the pointer approaches the red range of the scale, temporarily turn off the air conditioner until the engine temperature returns to normal.
Car interior heating
In order to raise the temperature of the air in the passenger compartment, perform the following manipulations:
- a) Start the engine;
- b) Set the air distribution direction switch knob to the position. The air circulation mode must be turned off;
- c) Using the fan speed selection knob, set the required intensity of air supply to the passenger compartment;
- d) By turning the handle of the air temperature regulator in one direction or another, set the desired degree of air heating.
Interior heating with simultaneous dehumidification with air conditioning
When the air conditioning system is operating, the humidity in the car interior decreases, so the simultaneous inclusion of heating and air conditioning systems allows you to make the air in the car interior warm and dry:
- a) Turn on the fan;
- b) Turn on the air conditioner;
- c) Set the air distribution direction switch knob to the position. The air circulation mode must be turned off;
- d) By turning the knob of the air temperature regulator in one direction or another, set the desired degree of heating of the air entering the passenger compartment. In this mode, cold air from the air conditioner is mixed with warm air from the heater.
The joint inclusion of heating and air conditioning systems can be used in any driving conditions when the ambient temperature is above 0°C.
Removing condensation and frost from windows
You can clean the internal surfaces of the glass from condensed moisture as follows:
- a) Turn on the fan;
- b) If the vehicle is equipped with the appropriate equipment, turn on the air conditioner;
- c) Set the air distribution direction switch knob to the position. The air circulation mode must be turned off. Some versions of the car provide for the possibility of automatically switching on the fresh air supply mode and its air conditioner by setting the air distribution direction switch knob to the position;
- d) Turn the air temperature control knob to such a position that warm air is supplied through the windshield blower nozzles;
- e) Turn on the rear window defroster to remove condensed moisture from its surface more quickly. On some vehicle versions, if the air distribution direction switch knob is in any position other than , the air conditioner remains on. To turn off the air conditioner, press the A/C button.
In order to remove frost or ice from the outer surface of the windshield and side windows, formed after the car was parked on the street in frosty weather, perform the following manipulations:
- a) Switch on the ignition by turning the key in the lock to position "ON" (II);
- b) Set the air distribution direction switch knob to the position. The air circulation mode must be turned off. Some versions of the car provide for the possibility of automatically switching on the mode of supplying fresh air and air conditioning by setting the handle for switching the distribution direction modes to the position;
- c) Turn the air temperature control knob to the extreme right position (maximum air heating) and turn on the fan at maximum speed;
- d) Start the car engine.
To speed up the removal of frost or ice from the windshield in very cold weather, it is recommended to first turn on the closed air circulation mode. After the windshield is free of frost, resume the fresh air supply to prevent fogging of the windows.
In the windshield blowing mode, all air supplied to the passenger compartment enters through slotted nozzles located on top of the instrument panel at the base of the windshield, as well as through the side ventilation deflectors of the instrument panel. The glass blowing temperature and the glass cleaning speed increase as the engine warms up. To speed up the process of removing condensation, frost or ice from the windshield, you can close the side vents. In this case, all the air will go exclusively to blowing the windshield.
For safety reasons, do not start driving until all windows of the vehicle are clear of condensation and the driver has adequate visibility.
Switching off heating and ventilation systems
To temporarily turn off the heating and ventilation systems, turn the knobs of the fan speed and air temperature controls to their extreme left positions.
The need to turn off the systems occurs in the first few minutes after starting the engine in cold weather, as this ensures that the engine warms up more quickly to a temperature sufficient for efficient operation of the heater. In all other cases, keep the fan constantly on to avoid air stagnation in the cabin.
Climate control system
The layout of the external information sensors of the climate control system
A - Solar radiation intensity photo sensor
B - Outside temperature sensor
The climate control system may be standard on some models and controls ventilation, heating and air conditioning in the cabin. The heater and air conditioner maintain the set air temperature in the cabin, based on the readings of temperature and radiation information sensors. In addition, the climate control system automatically selects the fan speed and distributes air distribution depending on the set temperature.
Note. The selected temperature setting remains in the memory of the climate control system control unit, but will be erased from there when the negative cable is disconnected from the battery (by default, when power is restored, the system will select the mode of maintaining the temperature in the cabin at 25.0°C).
The direction of air flows entering the passenger compartment from the central and side ventilation nozzles can be manually adjusted using the movable deflector grilles - the control levers are located in the middle of the deflector grilles. If desired, the air supply through the side vents of the instrument panel can be completely stopped.
System operation in automatic mode
HVAC operation control panel on models equipped with climate control
1, 2 - Climate control button (AUTO) / handle for selecting the temperature mode (TEMP); 3 - Button for turning on the display of the readings of the outdoor air temperature sensor; 4 - Button for turning on / off the economy mode of A/C; A - Indicator of air flow distribution directions; B - Readings of the indoor/outdoor air temperature sensor
Switching the climate control system to automatic operation by pressing a button "AUTO" on the control panel. Turning the temperature controller knob (TEMP) set the desired air temperature.
The system automatically creates the optimal combination of air flows coming through the air conditioner and / or the heat exchanger of the heater, providing the fastest heating or cooling of the air in the cabin to the set temperature.
Note. Automatic control of airflow distribution in the modes and is disabled.
For the fastest warming up or cooling of the air in the cabin, turn on the closed air circulation mode (see below) and turn the temperature control knob to one of the extreme (left or right) positions, - this sets the upper (32°С) or bottom (17°C) temperature limit. If the air temperature control is turned to one of the extreme positions, the system will operate continuously without shutting down and heating/cooling the air as efficiently as possible. At the same time, the system does not control the current air temperature in the vehicle interior. To enable automatic control, the handle should be moved to any of the intermediate positions. The value of the selected temperature will be displayed on the display screen. The selected temperature will be displayed on the corresponding field of the display screen. If desired, the reading of the outdoor air temperature sensor can be displayed on the same field of the screen using the OUT TEMP button - if the value is negative, a warning sound will sound and the color of the displayed readings will change to white.
Note. During parking, as well as in some other cases, when the outside air temperature sensor enters the zone of influence of heat coming from the engine compartment, or is exposed to direct sunlight, the value displayed on the display by pressing the OUT TEMP button may not quite correspond to the actual temperature.
In cold weather, the fan automatically turns on only after the engine has been running for a while and the heater is ready to heat the air.
With button (4) the economy mode of the air conditioner is switched on / off (ECO). This mode can be selected at low relative air humidity and allows to somewhat reduce the excess fuel consumption due to the operation of the A/C compressor.
Operation of the system in manual control mode
Pressing any of the keys, except for AUTO, TEMP and ¤, exits the air conditioning system from automatic mode, which can only be returned by pressing the AUTO button again.
