Attention! Before you start servicing the components of the onboard electrical equipment, read the requirements of the safety regulations for working with electrical appliances.
The vehicle is equipped with a 12-volt negative ground electrical system. The power supply to lighting fixtures and other consumers is carried out from a lead-acid type battery, which is recharged from an alternator.
This Chapter describes the procedures for repair and maintenance of electrical components installed on the vehicle and not directly related to the operation of the engine. Information on the maintenance of such units as the battery, ignition distributor, generator and starter is given in the Chapter Engine electrical equipment, dedicated to engine electrical systems.
To prevent electrical shock or fire from an accidental short circuit, disconnect the negative cable from the battery before servicing the onboard electrical components. Regularly check the condition of the wiring harnesses and the reliability of their fastening in intermediate clamps, clamps and strappings. Make sure that the wire insulation does not fray when in contact with adjacent components.
Warning! The car models covered in this manual are equipped with an additional security system (SRS). Before doing any work near the airbag unit, steering column or instrument panel, turn off the SRS to avoid injury if it is accidentally deployed (see Section Additional security system (SRS) - general information and precautions). SRS circuit wiring is easily identified by the yellow color of the insulation.
If the stereo system installed in the car is equipped with a security code, before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have the correct combination to activate the audio system!
