Mirage and Galant models
Removing
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Attention! If the stereo system installed in the car is equipped with a security code, before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have the correct combination to activate the audio system!
2. Remove the hood release handle.
3. Remove the knee brace.
4. Remove the duct sleeve and knee level trim panel.
5. Remove the steering wheel (see Section Removal and installation of a steering wheel).
6. Remove the top and bottom section of a casing of a steering column.
7. On Galant models, insert the key into the ignition lock and turn it to the ACC position, then push the locking pin inside the lock assembly with a small sharp tool and remove the lock cylinder.
Note. On models with AT, a sliding lever of the key blocking drive is installed on the wall of the lock cylinder, from which the drive cable should be disconnected.
8. With the appropriate configuration, dismantle the signal sensor-switch for removing the ignition key.
9. Disconnect the wiring from the ignition switch. Turn out fixing screws and take assembly of the switch from the lock cylinder.
Installation
1. On models with AT, remove the key and install the sliding lever on the lock cylinder and connect the drive cable to it. Lubricate the cable with grease and install the cylinder in the casing of the lock assembly. Check the correct functioning of the blocker.
2. Insert the ignition switch into the back of the casing of the lock assembly, - make sure that the wells are aligned correctly.
3. Connect the electrical wiring and install the retainer.
4. Establish casings of a steering column.
5. Install steering wheel and knee brace.
6. Install the hood release handle.
7. Connect the negative cable to the battery, activate the airbag and check the ignition switch for proper operation.
Diamante Models
Warning! Before doing any work near the airbag unit, steering column or instrument panel, turn off the SRS to avoid injury if it is accidentally deployed (see chapter Onboard electrical equipment). SRS circuit wiring is easily identified by the yellow color of the insulation.
Removing
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

2. Deactivate the airbag (see chapter Onboard electrical equipment).
3. Remove the steering wheel (see Section Removal and installation of a steering wheel).
4. Remove the hood lock release handle.
5. Remove the switches located on the panel of a knee emphasis under a steering column, turn out the opened screws and dismantle an emphasis.
6. Remove the top and bottom sections of a casing of a steering column, - try not to break off directing uvulas.
7. If required, remove the footwell air supply hose, then carefully disconnect the electrical wiring from the ignition switch.
8. Turn out fixing screws and release the switch from the lock cylinder.
Installation
1. Fill the circuit breaker into the casing of the lock assembly, - make sure that the wells are aligned correctly. Screw in and tighten the fixing screws.
2. Connect electrical wiring to the switch.
3. Install knee blower and air duct sleeve.
4. Install knee brace and switch panel.
5. Install the hood release handle.
6. Install the steering wheel.
7. Establish casings of a steering column.
8. Connect the negative cable to the battery, activate the airbag and check the ignition switch for proper operation.
