Removing
1. Mark the direction of rotation of the timing belt to facilitate its reinstallation (pic 2.3).

Examination
2. Replace the toothed belt if the following defects are found:
- hardened rubber on the outside of the belt. If the outer side of the belt is shiny, inelastic, and so hard that it does not leave marks when pressed hard with a fingernail (pic. 2.3a);
- 2 cracks in the rubber on the outside of the belt (pic. 2.36);
- cracks 3 or exfoliated material;
- cracks 4 at the root of the tooth;
- 5 cracks on the sides of the belt.

Installation
3. Set the mark on the camshaft pulley 1 opposite the mark on the cylinder head 2, the mark on the crankshaft pulley 1 opposite the mark on the power steering pump housing 2 (pic. 2.4a,b).

4. Put the toothed belt on the crankshaft pulley 3, keeping tension side 2 taut, and then put the belt on the camshaft pulley 1 (pic. 2.5).
Pic. 2.5. Slide the toothed belt over the crankshaft pulley, keeping the tension side taut, and then slide the belt over the camshaft pulley
5. Loosen the bolts 1 and 2 of the tensioner and tension the belt with a spring. Pay attention that the belt is completely seated in the grooves of the pulleys. Check the direction of the alignment marks on the pulleys (pic. 2.6).

6. Turn the crankshaft three teeth clockwise (pic. 2.7).
Pic. 2.7. Turn the crankshaft three teeth clockwise. 1 - Label on the power steering pump housing; 2 - Turn by three teeth; 3 - Mark on the crankshaft pulley.
1. Never tighten bolt 1 first, because the tensioner when tightening the bolt will scroll with the bolt, which will lead to excessive tension on the belt (pic. 2.8).
Pic. 2.8. Tighten bolt 2 first and then 1
8. Check belt tension. Squeeze the tensioner and belt with your hand and push the tensioner towards the belt. Please note that the belt teeth are 1/4 immersed in the tensioner bolt (pic. 2.9).
