General steering information

The steering column is energy-absorbing and tilt-adjustable. The power steering is integrated with the rack and pinion steering mechanism, in which the rack, together with the steering rods, is assembled into a single unit. The power steering is equipped with a variable displacement vane pump so that the fluid supply varies with engine speed. The power steering uses DEXRON or DEXRON II automatic transmission fluid. The scheme of the steering mechanism with the amplifier is shown in fig. 13.1.
