Remove the steering pump drive V-belt.
Loosen the water pump belt pulley while pressing lightly on the belt with your hand.
Remove the A/C compressor V-belt and the A/C compressor pulley bracket.
Remove the alternator drive V-belt.
Unscrew the top and then the bottom toothed belt guard.
Remove the tips from all candles and turn the candles out with a candle wrench.
Scroll the crankshaft clockwise, checking the condition of the toothed belt. The transmission must be in neutral and the parking brake applied. Rotate the crankshaft using the head for the central bolt. Always turn the crankshaft clockwise.
Crank the engine until the piston of the first cylinder reaches top dead center (TDC). The mark on the camshaft must match the corresponding mark.
To allow the tensioner to move, loosen both bolts.
Turn the crankshaft clockwise so that the camshaft gear turns 2 teeth (18°).
In this position, press the tensioner. This keeps the individual gears engaged with the toothed belt.
To tension the belt only with a spring, release the tensioner.
Tighten the belt tensioner. Tighten the set bolt in the groove first, and then tighten the pivot axle mounting bolt.
Check the belt tension again. To do this, press the belt with your finger approximately at the level of the middle of the belt tensioner. The belt should flex to about 1/4 the width of the belt tensioner pinch bolt head.
Insert the spark plugs and put on the spark plug caps.
Install the lower toothed belt guard and then the upper guard.
Install the A/C compressor belt pulley bracket and install the water pump belt pulley.
Install the V-belt.
