CAUTION: The timing belt mechanism in the diesel engine has an automatic tensioner.
Remove the toothed belt cover.
Scroll the crankshaft clockwise and check the condition of the toothed belt. The gearbox must be in position «neutral», and the handbrake is applied.
Set the piston of the first cylinder to the TDC position. To do this, turn the crankshaft so that the mark on the camshaft wheel coincides with the pointer. Turn the gear wheel only clockwise. Do not turn the engine over the camshaft wheel.
Loosen the locking screw of the toothed belt tensioner from the back using a wrench extension.
Press the belt tensioner by hand and loosen the belt. Tighten the screw until the tensioner is stationary.
Turn the crankshaft in a counterclockwise direction so that the camshaft gear moves 1/2 tooth in the direction shown in the figure.
Loosen the screw of the toothed belt tensioner so that it can turn 1/6±1/2 turn, now the tensioning roller spring presses on the toothed belt.
Rotate the crankshaft counterclockwise 2-1/2 teeth on the camshaft wheel.
Tighten the toothed belt tensioner screw to 50 Nm.
Turn the crankshaft clockwise to bring the #1 piston to TDC.
Press your index finger on the toothed belt between the camshaft wheel and the high pressure fuel pump gear. The deflection of the belt must be 4±5 mm.
Install the toothed belt guards, install the V-belt.
