Removing
Disconnect the breather hoses leading to the cap. Do not disconnect any hoses unless this interferes with removal
Disconnect spark plug wires.
Inspect the end of the cylinder block cover that is closest to the pulleys. Some covers overlap the timing belt cover. In this case, remove the cylinder head cover bolts.
If the upper timing belt cover overlaps the cylinder head cover, remove the timing belt cover and then remove the cylinder head cover bolts. Cover the belt with a thick protective cloth.
Lift the cylinder head cover and move it away from the cylinder head. Do not use a screwdriver as this will damage the cap and cause oil to leak after assembly.
Models with seals at the end of the cover furthest from the pulleys, remove the semi-circular seal from the head or from the cylinder head cover.
Clean the inside and outside surfaces of the cylinder head cover with solvent and a stiff brush. Clean the seal and the head or the contact surfaces of the cylinder head cover. Clean the mating surfaces of the head gasket
Check gasket. Remove dirt.
Installation
Installation is carried out in the reverse order, taking into account the following:
Models with seals. Before installing the semi-circular plug (4) cover all its contact surfaces (2, 3) oil resistant gasket sealant. Reinstall the plug. Apply a very small amount of sealant to the head surface on each side of the seal.
Apply some sealant to the cylinder head cover gasket at the vertical corners (1).
Install the gasket into the groove in the cap and position it correctly on the head.
Install rubber bushings, metal washers and mounting bolts through the cover. The cover must be tightened so as to compress the gasket.
If the timing belt cover was removed, put it back in place, making sure it fits properly and does not rub against the belt.
It is recommended to keep the engine off for 1-2 hours to give the sealant enough time to set before being exposed to high temperatures and oil.
