Antifreeze and corrosion inhibitors — general information

If the temperature is expected to drop below 0°C, drain some of the water and add an appropriate amount of ethylene glycol antifreeze to the cooling system. If antifreeze is not used, it is recommended to add a corrosion inhibitor to the cooling system in the proportion recommended by the manufacturer.

You can use any antifreeze based on ethylene glycol. Do not use alcohol-based antifreeze as it evaporates too much.



Most anti-corrosion fluids can remain in the cooling system for up to two years, but after 6 months it is recommended to measure the specific gravity of the fluid and repeat these measurements every 3 months.

The proportions for the addition of antifreeze and the freezing point of these mixtures are given below.
